HISTORIC SKYSCRAPERS WALKING TOUR

Chicago is more than just the birthplace of the skyscraper -- it’s also where most innovations in skyscraper design originated. On this tour, take a step back in time to the late 1800s to hear stories behind the city’s early world-famous buildings, as well as get an illustrated look at how Chicago grew from a city devastated by a great fire to a leader in skyscraper engineering and design. Some of the buildings that may be highlighted on the tour include: The Art Institute of Chicago, Marquette building, the Rookery, Chicago Board of Trade, Monadnock building, Auditorium building and Railway Exchange building.

ADA:
  • The Historic Skyscrapers tour is accessible. A majority of this tour is outdoors on the sidewalks of downtown Chicago. There are a few interior lobby spaces included which may have some rivets in the floors, however there are accessible doorways and no stairs in all the buildings visited.
